It was called living lettuce because the roots of the plant were still attached. It was a little more expensive. But I found it cleaner and in better shape. I didn't have to throw away the outer leaves. The taste was wonderful. And the shelf life is phanomenal. A week later and it still looks as good as the day I bought it.
No smarky comments or life lessons, just a cool product I stumbled on to.

I used to buy the bagged kind but its just me and my bro living together so we didn't eat if very fast and it always went bad... hated throwing out food and as an environmental scientist I didn't like the waste... found living lettuce and it stays good for weeks, especially if you keep the root ball moist with an occasional sprtiz (like when i water the rest of the plants in my apartment]. great for burgers and tacos, never been much of a salad guy but it'd probably be good with dressing!
